About the Role

  • We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial reporting, team management, and accounting operations for growth-stage clients. The role requires strong leadership, deep technical accounting expertise, and the ability to partner closely with client executives to support data-driven decision-making. The Controller will lead distributed teams, ensure accuracy of financial information, and implement scalable processes aligned with organizational goals.

Job Description

Team Management

  • Lead and manage engagement teams across U.S. and international locations.
  • Delegate responsibilities to ensure effective resource utilization and delivery efficiency.
  • Provide mentorship, identify development opportunities, and support capability building.
  • Partner with FP&A teams to validate historical data and provide relevant commentary.
  • Manage team bandwidth to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.

Client Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client sponsors and executive leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all finance and accounting matters.
  • Collaborate with department heads to deliver data-driven insights and reports that support business decisions.
  • Develop and enhance processes that utilize data to drive operational and financial performance.
  • Maintain high responsiveness (within 2 business hours) and embed seamlessly into client communication channels (Slack, Teams, Skype, etc.).

Accounting & Reporting

  • Lead end-to-end financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Own the preparation of financial statements, schedules, and supporting workbooks.
  • Establish scalable, repeatable processes to enhance reporting consistency and control.
  • Evaluate accounting workflows to determine required system controls.
  • Recommend tools, software, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.

Business Acumen

  • Understand key company metrics and the impact of accounting practices on performance indicators.
  • Develop and refine KPIs leveraging industry knowledge and reporting insights.
  • Communicate proactively, demonstrating strong problem-solving and organizational capabilities.
  • Build a deep understanding of client business needs, including reporting, audit readiness, and stakeholder expectations.

Qualifications

Experience

CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods)

  • Strong understanding of inventory flow and costing principles.
  • Experience with DTC and wholesale sales channels.
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 and revenue recognition practices.
  • Familiarity with sales tax requirements across jurisdictions.
  • Ability to distinguish accurately between COGS and operating expenses.

Skills

Tech / SaaS

  • Strong understanding of revenue waterfall, deferred revenue, and subscription models.
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 and SaaS-specific revenue recognition.
  • Familiarity with sales tax implications for digital products and services.
  • Ability to identify capitalizable costs and appropriately allocate COGS and operating expenses.
